Littleton Golf and Tennis

Designed to communicate quality and deliver improved function, the new indoor facility built by Big Johnson Construction for the Littleton Golf and Tennis Club replaced an outdated, inflatable bubble with only a makeshift golf pro shop. In use since 2023, the 56,403 sq. ft. pre-engineered metal building boasts a large gabled main structure plus a unique at-eave-height lean-to for an expanded pro shop and concessions area. The 27-ft eave height delivers plenty of room for unhindered sports play. The chosen roof option was the Behlen Building System’s ZL-24 Standing Seam Roof System.

A unique challenge to the Littleton project was the requirement to retain the existing post-tensioned floor from the previous structure. This was accomplished by designing a building with an overall footprint slightly larger than the previous one and then integrating the new pre-engineered metal building foundation into the existing slab. Another design requirement was sufficient strength and space to accommodate ceiling-suspended items, such as court-dividing nets, backing curtains, and ventilation equipment.

To ensure a comfortable indoor environment for all-season play, the building has a double-layer roof cavity insulation system and a single-layer cavity insulation system for the walls, both supplied by Thermal Design. A natural evergreen liner system was added to each end wall, providing additional protection and visually appealing color.

The integrated pro-shop space continued the main structure’s roof but used a stud-framed wall cladding with horizontal wood-finished metal panels. Along with the accent panels, the low side of the pro shop roof was extended to provide a covered patio area for concessions.

In use since 2023, the facility combines structural innovation with inviting aesthetics, ensuring a welcoming space for members to enjoy their favorite sports.
