Behlen Mfg. Co. was founded in 1936 by Walter D. Behlen. In 1969, Behlen was sold to the Wickes Corporation. On May 5th, 1984, a management buy-out led by A.F. “Tony” Raimondo returned the company to local ownership where it has remained since that time.
Behlen Mfg. Co. manufactures and ships products throughout the world. Behlen has three business units, which manufactures products in different market areas. BMC Transportation, a subsidiary of Behlen Mfg. Co., s our company’s own trucking fleet and provides each business unit with control of product pickup and delivery. By providing a diverse product line, the company has achieved added stability and growth.

- Behlen Building Systems – delivering pre-engineered metal buildings through a nationwide network of builders
- Behlen International and Diversified Products (IDP) – Grain Systems, Strip Joining Presses, and Custom Fabrication. As part of the IDP business unit, in early 2008 Behlen purchased Distefano Tool & Mfg. (now called Behlen Technology and Manufacturing) in Omaha, Nebraska adding even more capacity and more capability. Behlen Technology and Manufacturing fabricates more than 1,000 different metal components for various industries including commercial turf care, agricultural, construction, transportation, medical, and telecommunications.
In the United States, plants are located in Columbus, Nebraska (world headquarters); Omaha, Nebraska; Baker City, Oregon; McGregor, Texas; and Sarasota, Florida. A sales and engineering office is located in Boise, Idaho.
